STAMP-IT – Sustainable Technology for the Advanced Manufacturing of Panels for the Interior of Trains

Project name: STAMP-IT – Sustainable Technology for the Advanced Manufacturing of Panels for the Interior of Trains
Project code: STAMP-IT
Project timeline: 2025 - 2028
Research group: Manufacturing and Industrial Management
Objective
The STAMP-IT project aims to study, develop, and validate an innovative solution for aluminium side panels for railway interiors, leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as warm stamping and Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM). The railway industry faces major challenges in the context of future mobility, driven by population growth, rapid urbanisation, and the increasing demand for more sustainable and efficient transport solutions. Reducing vehicle weight, improving energy efficiency, and minimising environmental impact, while ensuring passenger comfort and convenience, are key drivers for technological innovation. However, current solutions remain insufficient to meet the needs of railway OEMs. The project’s scientific and technical approach combines experimentation with advanced numerical simulation, enabling process and material optimisation to deliver a final product that is lightweight, durable, cost-effective, and sustainable.
